Indy Car Connect makes donating a vehicle in Indianapolis simple: we come to you. Whether you’re in Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, Irvington, Lawrence, Speedway, or anywhere across the Indy Metro, your tow is genuinely free. There’s no pickup fee now or later — the cost of the flatbed or hook-and-chain tow is covered from the charity’s sale proceeds, never billed back to you.
Here’s how it works locally: you call us or submit the online form, we confirm your address and a pickup window that fits your schedule, and a nearby towing partner handles the rest. You can leave the signed title and keys in an agreed spot with the vehicle; you don’t even have to be home if access is simple. Most pickups in Marion County and close-in suburbs like Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, and Avon are completed within a few business days. Rural addresses a bit farther out in Central Indiana may take slightly longer while we plan efficient routes. Running or not, parked in a driveway, apartment lot, or on the street where legal, we’ll arrange a local tow and provide your tax-deduction paperwork once the vehicle is sold.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Share your Indy vehicle details
Call Indy Car Connect or fill out our secure online form with your Indianapolis-area address, basic vehicle information, and whether it runs. We accept cars, trucks, SUVs, and many other vehicles from across the Indy Metro, including downtown, Westfield, Plainfield, Noblesville, and nearby communities. This quick info helps us match you with a local towing partner and estimate how soon a truck can reach your specific neighborhood.
2. Choose a convenient pickup window
Our team reviews your location and offers a pickup window, usually within a few business days in most of Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, Hancock, and Johnson County neighborhoods. We’ll talk through things like narrow streets, alleys, or apartment parking rules so the tow driver can access your car. You pick a day and window that works for you, and we confirm everything by phone or email so you know what to expect.
3. Prepare the title, keys, and vehicle location
Before pickup day, remove personal items and license plates, and locate your Indiana title. We’ll guide you on where to sign as the seller. On the scheduled day, leave the signed title and keys in the vehicle or a safe, agreed spot. Just make sure the car is reachable for a flatbed or tow truck — driveway, open garage, or legal street parking works in most Indianapolis neighborhoods.
4. Meet the tow truck (or skip it if not needed)
In many parts of Indianapolis, you don’t need to be home if paperwork and access are set. The local tow operator will arrive within the scheduled window, load your vehicle, collect the title and keys, and note the odometer. If you prefer to be present, the driver will walk you through a simple release. Either way, you pay $0 — the towing charge is covered through the charity’s sale proceeds.
5. Receive your tax-deduction receipt
After your donated vehicle is sold, Indy Car Connect, benefiting Heritage for the Blind, mails you a tax receipt. Most donors receive documentation supporting at least a $500 deduction; if the sale exceeds $500, we’ll include the details you need to complete IRS Form 1098-C. Keep this with your tax records and consult your tax advisor about how to claim the deduction for your Indiana state and federal returns.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight alleys, one-way streets, and downtown parking
Tip: Downtown Indy, Fletcher Place, and Fountain Square can be tricky for flatbeds. If your car is in a tight alley, parking garage, or cramped street, tell us upfront. We may suggest moving it to a more open curb or lot the night before so the tow truck can safely reach and load it without delay or extra scheduling.
Gated communities, HOA rules, and apartment lots
Tip: In Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, and other HOA or apartment communities, tow trucks sometimes get blocked by gates or parking rules. Share gate codes, concierge info, and any parking permits or restrictions when you schedule. Let your property manager know a tow is coming so the driver can enter quickly and avoid issues with security or reserved spaces.
Very rural or long-drive Indiana addresses
Tip: If you’re outside the core Indy Metro—maybe near Sheridan, Monrovia, Greenfield’s rural edges, or farther into Central Indiana—pickup can take a bit longer. Routes are grouped so our towing partners aren’t making long trips for a single car. Be flexible on days, and we’ll work to fit your donation into the next available run in your area.
Missing or incorrect Indiana title paperwork
Tip: Not having the right Indiana title can slow everything down. Before we schedule, locate your title and confirm names match your ID. If it’s lost, you may need a replacement from the BMV. We’ll explain what the tow driver needs to collect so the charity can legally transfer and sell the vehicle after pickup.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is challenging for your situation — for example, your vehicle is in a cramped downtown garage, blocked in a backyard, or stored on a relative’s property outside Indy — we can often work out alternatives. In some cases, you can meet our tow partner at a nearby open lot, street, or workplace in areas like Castleton, Beech Grove, or Speedway. We’ll help you choose a safe, legal spot to transfer the vehicle. If your title issues need time to fix, we can also schedule pickup for a later date once your Indiana paperwork is ready.
Indianapolis pickup coverage
Indy Car Connect serves the full Indianapolis area, from neighborhoods like Broad Ripple, Meridian-Kessler, and Irvington to suburbs such as Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Avon, Plainfield, Greenwood, and Greenfield. We also reach many nearby Central Indiana towns, with timing based on tow-truck routing and how rural your address is. Across Indiana, you’ll typically remove your plates before the car is towed; the title must be properly signed over to the charity so ownership can transfer. We’ll walk you through the Indiana BMV requirements so your donation is clean, compliant, and ready for tax purposes.
