Need a straight answer on the year-end car donation deadline in Indianapolis? For this tax year, the IRS cutoff is December 31. That means your vehicle must be picked up by December 31—not just promised or scheduled—to count for this year’s deduction. With Indy Car Connect, working with Heritage for the Blind, we run Monday–Saturday pickups all through December, including Christmas week, across the Indy Metro. Call by December 27 (28 at the latest) to confidently lock in a Dec 31 slot. Many Indianapolis donors can even get same-day or next-business-day pickup when they contact us before early afternoon on weekdays.
Whether you’re in Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, Irvington, Speedway, or suburbs like Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Greenwood, Avon, or Plainfield, your donation includes a free tow, even if the car doesn’t run. No inspection, no repairs needed—as long as you have a signed title, you can start with a quick 2-minute online form or phone call. Your vehicle is sold, and the proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind to support people who are blind or visually impaired. You receive a tax receipt—usually dollar-500-plus or the sale price, depending on value. If you want this year’s tax benefit, now is the time to schedule your pickup.

Confirm you can meet the Dec 31 pickup cutoff
2 minutesCheck your calendar and decide if you can make the IRS deadline: your car must be physically picked up by December 31 in the Indy Metro. If you’re aiming for year-end taxes, plan to contact Indy Car Connect by December 27–28 at the latest.
Start the 2-minute form or call Indy Car Connect
2 minutesComplete a short online form or call Indy Car Connect. We’ll ask for basic details: year, make, model, condition, exact Indianapolis-area location, and your contact info. No emissions test or inspection is required. As long as you have a signed title, we can move fast.
Lock in your Indy Metro pickup date and window
5 minutesOur scheduling team, working for Heritage for the Blind, confirms a pickup day and time window that fits your schedule. In most parts of Indianapolis and nearby suburbs, we can offer same-day or next-day pickups for weekday calls before early afternoon, even during Christmas week.
Prepare your signed title and remove personal items
10–15 minutesBefore the tow truck arrives, sign your title as directed, remove license plates if required by Indiana, and clear personal belongings from the vehicle. The vehicle doesn’t need to run, and we’ll tow it free from driveways, streets, or parking lots around Indianapolis.
Complete the pickup and get your initial receipt
15–20 minutesOn pickup day, the driver verifies your title, has you sign a simple release, and tows your vehicle at no cost. You’ll receive an initial donation acknowledgment tied to this tax year as long as the pickup happens by December 31 anywhere in the Indy Metro or nearby communities.
Receive your tax receipt after the vehicle sells
Varies after saleAfter your vehicle is sold, Heritage for the Blind mails your IRS-compliant tax receipt, often referencing IRS Form 1098-C for qualifying donations. That document confirms the final sale price and supports your deduction when you file and itemize on Schedule A for this tax year.
Year-end tax deduction facts
Dec 31 pickup equals this year’s deduction
For IRS purposes, the car must be transferred by December 31 to count for this tax year. With car donations, that means the pickup must be completed by Dec 31, not just scheduled, so don’t wait until New Year’s Eve to call.
Your deduction is usually the vehicle’s sale price
In most cases, the IRS lets you deduct the gross amount the charity receives from selling your car, not the blue-book value. After your donation, Heritage for the Blind sells the vehicle and reports that sale price for your tax records.
IRS Form 1098-C for larger donations
If your donated vehicle is sold for more than the IRS threshold, the charity issues IRS Form 1098-C (or an equivalent statement with the same information). This supports your deduction and must generally be filed with your return for higher-value donations.
Itemize on Schedule A to claim the deduction
To benefit from a charitable car donation, you usually need to itemize deductions using Schedule A instead of taking the standard deduction. Talk with your tax preparer about whether itemizing your car donation makes sense for your situation this year.
30-day written acknowledgment from the charity
Once your donated car is sold, Heritage for the Blind sends a written acknowledgment, typically within 30 days of the sale. This shows the sale amount, date, and vehicle details so you have solid documentation if the IRS ever asks for proof of your deduction.
